I. Overview of DWDM Technology
DWDM is the abbreviation for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing. A dense wavelength division multiplexer takes advantage of the large bandwidth and low-loss characteristics of single-mode optical fibers, allowing multiple carrier channels to transmit data simultaneously within the fiber through bit-parallel or serial transmission modes.
This technology increases the communication capacity of network systems and fully utilizes the bandwidth of optical fibers, thus finding extensive applications in scenarios such as backbone networks, metropolitan area networks, local area networks, and residential access networks.
DWDM optical modules adopting this technology multiplex multiple optical signals onto a single optical fiber using different wavelengths. With a given information transmission capacity, it can reduce the total number of optical fibers required and lower construction costs. Thanks to its unique transmission characteristics and cost advantages, it has gained great popularity among numerous carriers and equipment manufacturers.

II. Classification and Applications of 10G-DWDM Optical Modules
2.1 XENPAK-10G-DWDM
The XENPAK-10G-DWDM optical module is an early type of 10G-DWDM module with XENPAK form factor. It can be further divided into XENPAK-10G-DWDM-ER supporting a transmission distance of 40km and XENPAK-10G-DWDM-ZR supporting 80km. Currently, it has become a bulky, large-sized and outdated product, and has been eliminated from the market.
2.2 X2-10G-DWDM
The X2 optical module evolved from the XENPAK standard, with only half the size of XENPAK modules. Similarly, it is available in versions supporting 40km and 80km transmission distances. However, like XENPAK modules, X2-10G-DWDM modules have also been gradually phased out of the market, and are mainly used in some older models of equipment.
2.3 XFP-10G-DWDM
The XFP-10G-DWDM optical module supports a transmission rate ranging from 9.95 Gb/s to 11.3 Gb/s, complies with the XFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) standard, and is applicable to 10G Ethernet, 10GFC, and OC192 applications. It can be deployed in storage systems, IP networks, and SONET/SDH networks, mainly on routers and switches.
In addition to the standard XFP-10G-DWDM-ER (40km) and XFP-10G-DWDM-ZR (80km) modules, Moduletek also provides versions supporting a transmission distance of 100km and industrial temperature range. The specific models are shown in the table below:

2.4 SFP-10G-DWDM
The SFP-10G-DWDM optical module supports a maximum bidirectional data transmission rate of 11.3 Gb/s, complies with the 10G Ethernet and SFF-8431 standards, and covers 44 conventional wavelength channels (CH18 to CH61) as shown in the table below. At a channel frequency spacing of 100GHz, the wavelength interval between each channel is approximately 0.8nm.
To meet customized requirements, Moduletek can also produce 10G-DWDM optical modules with 88 channels (50GHz wavelength spacing, approximately 0.4nm interval), as well as modules with special wavelengths including CH17 (1563.86nm) and CH62 (1527.99nm). Benefiting from its compact size, low power consumption, and cost advantages, the SFP-10G-DWDM optical module has become the most in-demand and widely used product among 10G-DWDM optical modules.
