When optical modules are deployed on switches, it is necessary to verify their working status, operating parameters, and internal information through switch commands.
Taking the Ciena XCVR-A10Y31 (SFP-GE-LX) optical module installed on a Ciena 3930 switch as an example, this article introduces how to view optical module information on Ciena switches.

1. View Port and Module Status
Run the following command to check basic port information where the optical module is inserted:
port show
It displays key information including:
• Port type (line rate)
• Link status
• Link up time
• Operating speed
2. View Optical Module Identification Information
Enter the following command to view module identity details:
port xcvr show
It shows:
• Module vendor name
• Module part number / model
• Optical module type
• Connector type
3. View DOM (Digital Optical Monitoring) Information
Enter the port/xcvr diagnostic mode:
port xcvr
Then view real-time DOM diagnostics for the target port:
show port <Port_Name> diagnostics
This command displays complete DOM parameters and thresholds:
• Real-time temperature, supply voltage, and bias current
• Transmit and receive optical power
• DOM high/low warning and alarm thresholds
• Alarm status indicating whether parameters are out of range
Note:
<Port_Name> is the physical port number on the Ciena 3930 switch, which can be obtained using the port show command.
