Moduletek Laboratory takes the H3C S6850-56HF switch as an example to introduce another password recovery method: temporarily clearing the console login authentication password to log in to the device and reset the password.
1. Connect the serial cable to the switch and reboot the device. When startup information is displayed on the terminal, press Ctrl+B promptly to enter BootRom mode.
2. After entering the BootRom main menu, check the password recovery function status displayed at the top and confirm it is Enabled. Select the option Change authentication for console login; use Ctrl+P to skip console login authentication. The device only temporarily restores the console port to its default configuration, which is valid only for the current boot session.
3. The system will prompt a successful operation. When the BootRom menu reappears, select Reboot to restart the switch.
4. After rebooting, the system directly enters user mode with the original device configuration intact. Enter the system view to configure a new console login authentication mode and password, then save the configuration to complete password recovery.
Compared with restoring the entire device to factory settings, restoring only the console port to its default configuration is simpler and more convenient. It should be noted that some older system versions do not include the option to skip console login authentication and thus do not support independent console configuration restoration. A typical example is the H3C S5120-20P-SI with system version 5.20, R1513P95.
Note: Menu options and commands may vary by H3C device model and system version. Please follow the actual interface prompts of your device.
