By default, Arista switches authenticate inserted optical modules. If a module is verified as non-Arista original, the switch may shut down the port or generate alarm messages. Arista provides hidden commands to enable support for third-party optical modules.
Taking the Arista DCS-7160-48YC6-F switch as an example, the following describes how to enable third-party module support on Arista switches:
1. When a third-party module is inserted into an Arista switch, the module fails to link up. The port LED displays orange, the port remains errdisabled, and alarm messages are generated.
2. In global configuration mode, run the following command to allow the use of third-party modules:
service unsupported-transceiver <licensee-name>
Note: This is a hidden command. It cannot be queried with the ? key or auto-completed with the Tab key. Remove the inserted module before executing this command; otherwise, you must reinsert the module or reboot the switch for it to recognize third-party optical modules.
Description: <licensee-name> refers to the licensee name and license value. You can refer to the EOS-User-Manual.pdf (official Arista document) for configuration instructions (only supported on select switch models) or submit a license request to marketing@arista.com.

3. After enabling third-party module support, the module will link up normally, and its information will be recognized correctly.
4. In global configuration mode, run the following command to disable third-party module support:
no service unsupported-transceiver <licensee-name>
