We have previously introduced the configuration of interface splitting and aggregation for several Cisco switch models. This article takes the Dell PowerSwitch S5224F-ON switch (OS Version: 10.5.5.9) as a test example to explain how to configure QSFP interface splitting and aggregation on Dell PowerSwitch S series switches.
        1. By default, the device’s QSFP interfaces work in aggregation mode. Only one standalone interface is displayed, running at a default speed of 100G, and it can be manually configured to 40G.
        2. Interface splitting and aggregation on this switch are configured based on port groups.
Run the following command to view all port groups and confirm the group that contains the target interface:
            show port-group
By default, the S5224F-ON switch uses 4 SFP ports as one port group and 1 QSFP port as one independent port group.
        3. Enter global configuration mode, access the target port group with the command:
            port-group <port-group_id>
        Then run the splitting command:
            mode Eth <breakout_mode>
This command splits the aggregated QSFP interface. The S5224F-ON supports three splitting modes: 4×10G, 4×25G, and 2×50G logical interfaces. The configuration takes effect immediately.
Note: If the port group is not in the default state, run no mode and save the configuration with the commit command to restore the port group to factory defaults.
        4. After applying the splitting configuration, check the interface status. The original single aggregated interface will be divided into four independent logical interfaces.
        5. There are two ways to cancel interface splitting and restore aggregation mode:
            • Enter global configuration mode, access the corresponding port group, and execute:
              no mode
            • Reconfigure the interface mode to 40g-1x or 100g-1x using the configuration method in Step 3.
Either method will restore the interface to its default aggregated state.
