Inventory of 10G Optical Modules

SFP+ optical modules are widely used in 10G Ethernet due to their advantages of compact size, low cost and high density, and they are currently the most common 10G optical modules in data centers and enterprise campuses. The following is an inventory of all types of 10G SFP+ optical modules and the differences between them.
The 10G SFP+ series optical modules include SR, LR, ER, ZR, BIDI, CWDM, DWDM and electrical port modules. All of them adopt LC duplex interfaces and comply with IEEE802.3ae, SFF-8472 and SFF-8431 standards. The detailed descriptions of the modules are as follows:
1. 10G SFP+ SR Optical Module
The 10G SFP+ SR optical module operates at a wavelength of 850nm. When used with multimode fiber, it supports a maximum transmission distance of 300m, and features low cost, low power consumption, compact size and high density.

2. 10G SFP+ LR Optical Module
The 10G SFP+ LR optical module operates at a wavelength of 1310nm. Its maximum transmission distance over single-mode fiber is 10km, and can actually reach up to 20km. Meanwhile, it has the advantages of miniaturization, low power consumption and long transmission distance.
3. 10G SFP+ ER Optical Module
The 10G SFP+ ER optical module operates at a wavelength of 1550nm. When used with single-mode fiber, it supports a transmission distance of up to 40km. As a cost-effective ultra-long-distance optical module, it is currently widely used in data centers and enterprise campuses.
4. 10G SFP+ ZR Optical Module
The 10G SFP+ ZR optical module operates at a wavelength of 1550nm. When used with single-mode fiber, it supports a transmission distance of up to 80km, and is widely applied in metropolitan area networks.
5. 10G SFP+ BIDI Optical Module
BIDI optical modules are single-fiber bidirectional optical modules. They adopt WDM technology, which can reduce the fiber usage in network deployment, thereby greatly lowering the network deployment cost.
6. 10G SFP+ CWDM Optical Module
The 10G SFP+ CWDM optical module is a coarse wavelength division multiplexing optical module, with a maximum transmission distance of up to 80km. It adopts CWDM technology to save fiber resources, which can significantly improve the flexibility, economy and reliability of networking.
7. 10G SFP+ DWDM Optical Module
The 10G SFP+ DWDM optical module is a dense wavelength division multiplexing optical module, with a maximum transmission distance of up to 80km, suitable for long-distance data transmission. This type of optical module can meet the requirements of ultra-large capacity and ultra-long-distance transmission to the greatest extent, providing stable guarantee for multi-service operation and future network upgrade and expansion. It also supports multiple networking modes, and wavelength scheduling can be performed between various nodes. It has many advantages such as easy capacity expansion, flexible service access, high bandwidth utilization rate and high reliability.
8. 10G Electrical Port Module
The 10G electrical port module is an electro-optical conversion module packaged in SFP+ form factor, with an RJ45 interface. It is usually used with Cat6A or Cat7 network patch cords, and currently supports a maximum transmission distance of 80m, which is widely used in data center computer rooms.
