Guidelines for upgrading HPE switch software versions using FTP

We have introduced the use of TFTP server, USB, and WEB interface to import system files to upgrade the switch system, then today we introduce another method, using FTP server, uploading system files from the client to upgrade the switch software.

The following is a case study on how to upgrade the software version of HPE switch using FTP server:

Note: The switch system software download directory: https://asp.arubanetworks.com/downloads ;

1. Enable the FTP server, add a local FTP user account, set its password and access service type, and assign it to the user role network administrator for uploading files to the server's working directory;

2. Log in to the FTP server client using the set local account (the FTP software used this time is Tripper FTP);

3. Select the local system files in the FTP server, right-click to upload, the system files will be sent to the switch flash memory;

4. Check whether the system software is successfully uploaded to the internal storage file of the switch;

5. Specify the image file for the main switch to be used in the next boot; when the switch loads the IPE file, it will decompress it into several . bin files by itself and use these bin files to upgrade the switch;

6. Reboot the switch with the command

HPE>reboot

Start to check configuration with next startup configuration file, please wait........ This command will reboot the device.

Now rebooting, please wait...

7. When the upgrade is complete, check the current version of the system software and the main boot version of the switch.

HPE>display version //View the current system software version information.

HPE>display boot-loader //View the system boot software version information.

Note: HPE 5940 series switch software version in F6705 (release time: 2022-07-25) added the function of FEC mode setting, users need to use this function, it is recommended to refer to the above method to upgrade the software version to F6705 or above.
