When optical transceivers operate on switches, reading internal module parameters helps monitor link status, real-time transmit/receive optical power, operating temperature and other key data. Verifying module identity also detects coding compatibility between transceivers and switches. This document explains how to check transceiver operating status and internal parameters in daily application.
Taking ModuleTek QSFP-100G-LR4 transceiver connected to Dell Z9000-ON switch as an example, we demonstrate detailed procedures to query optical module information on Dell switches.
Optical module access to the switch schematic diagram
Figure 1 Schematic Diagram of Transceiver Connected to Switch
1. View Port & Transceiver Link Status
        Run the command:
            show interface <interface-type> <interface-number>
It displays interface speed, transceiver type and link status. Link UP means the transceiver works normally. Traffic statistics are also available for fault troubleshooting.
Note: interface-type interface-number is the physical port where the transceiver is installed. You can confirm it on the switch panel. Omit the parameter to show information of all ports.
2. Query Transceiver Authentication & Underlying Encoding Data
        Run the command:
            show inventory media
It shows basic transceiver information and Dell official qualification results, including module type, model and serial number.
3. Check Transceiver DDM Diagnostic Monitoring Parameters
        Run the command:
            show interface <interface-type> <interface-number> transceiver
        The output includes two parts:
            1. Module identification data: Serial number, manufacture date, wavelength and other EEPROM encoded information
            2. Real-time DDM values and corresponding upper & lower alarm threshold ranges.
