Typically, a console login account and password are configured for access via the switch’s console port. These credentials are used for authentication to prevent unauthorized access, ensure operational security, and protect internal data. If you forget this console password, follow the steps below.
Moduletek Laboratory takes the Mellanox SB7800 switch as an example to demonstrate how to reset the password using the RESET button when the console user password of a Mellanox switch is forgotten.
Locate the RESET button on the switch. In this case, for the Mellanox MSB7800-ES2F switch, the RESET button is located next to the out-of-band management port on the rear panel, marked with the letter "R".

The RESET button is usually recessed into the switch panel to avoid accidental triggering. Use tweezers, a fine needle, or a similar tool to press and hold the RESET button for 15 seconds. Note: The required holding time varies by switch model; refer to the device’s user manual for the exact duration. After releasing the button, the system will reboot automatically.
Password-Free Access Method

During the reboot process, the system will automatically delete the original console password and reset relevant system configurations.
After the switch finishes booting, you can log in using the default account without entering a password: admin
Enter global configuration mode, then execute the following command to reconfigure the console port login account and password:
            username <username> password <password>
