CISCO NCS 540 router SFP28 interface rate configuration
Time: 2025-01-16
According to the data sheet of the CISCO N540-ACC-SYS router, its SFP28 ports support 10G rates, but the rate configuration method differs from that of conventional CISCO switches. Next, we will take the N540-ACC-SYS router as an example to help you learn and understand the rate configuration method for the SFP28 ports of CISCO NCS 540 series routers.
The SFP28 interface default state rate is 25G of CISCO N540-ACC-SYS router , if directly access to the 10G optical module, the interface can not adapt to the 10G rate and can not be linked up, you need to configure the interface in order to link up. So, we will use 25G and 10G optical module of Moduletek insert to the N540-ACC-SYS router SFP28 interface for demonstration.

Insert the Moduletek SFP-25G-LR-C-J12 module with the MSA code written into it into the SFP28 port of the N540-ACC-SYS router, in the default state 25G rate, the module can be normal establish a LINK connection at 25G rate, at this time the interface FEC mode is RS-FEC.

According to Cisco official document which named Cisco NCS 540 Router Hardware Installation Guide, the SFP28 ports are backward compatible with 10G, the ports are grouped into sets of four, and the interface rate configured for a port group determines the rate of all ports within that group.

To configure the SFP28 interface of the router to 10G rate after execute "hw-module quad quad-number location 0/0/CPU0 mode port-speed" . Note that the interface naming changes after the rate change, the original twentyFiveGigE 0/0/0/29 changes to tenGigE 0/0/0/29.
Insert the Moduletek SFP-10G-LR-C-D12 module with the MSA code written into it into the SFP28 port of the N540-ACC-SYS router, the module can be normal establish a LINK connection at 10G rate after the the interface rate configured for10G rate, at this time the interface FEC mode is off.
