When an optical module is deployed on a switch, it is necessary to read its internal information to check the operating status, such as link status, real-time transmit and receive optical power, and temperature. Reading module information also helps verify encoding compatibility between the optical module and the switch. This article introduces how to check the working status and internal parameters of optical modules during actual use.
Taking the Brocade 57-1000485-01 32G SW SFP+ optical module deployed on a Brocade G720 switch as an example, the following steps demonstrate how to read optical module information on Brocade Fibre Channel switches.

1. Check Optical Module Status
Run the command to view interface information:
diagshow
The command output includes interface rate, duplex mode, interface status and other details. A port status of Up means the optical module works normally and is in usable state.
2. Identify Optical Module Information
Run the command to view optical module identification details and digital diagnostic information on the specified port:
sfpshow <port_number>
Command Description
<port_number> refers to the slot and port number of the optical module. You can query the port number via the diagshow command or check the physical label on the switch panel.
If you do not specify the port number, the command will output brief identification information for all ports.
The sfpshow output consists of two parts:
1. Module identification information: including package type, rate, model, vendor, serial number, wavelength and other basic parameters.
2. Real-time digital diagnostic data: used to monitor whether the optical modules at both ends of the link work properly.
3. Interface Rate Configuration
Run the command to adjust the interface rate:
switchcfgspeed <speed>
This command uniformly sets the rate of all interfaces on the switch.
Note: Replace <speed> with the required interface rate value, such as 16, 32, etc.
