QSFP ports on switches can be configured as independent ports or broken out into multiple sub-interfaces. For instance, a 40G QSFP interface can be split into four 10G interfaces. After breakout, the split interfaces support the same configurations and features as ordinary 10G physical interfaces, differing only in interface numbering rules.
Breakout interfaces can connect to 10G networks via 1-to-4 fiber jumpers, optical modules matched with 1-to-4 fiber adapters, or QSA adapters paired with 10G modules. This solution improves network flexibility, increases port utilization, and reduces deployment costs.
Interface breakout and aggregation configuration commands vary by switch brand, model, and firmware version. Moduletek Laboratory will continuously release configuration guides for breakout and aggregation interfaces of different device models.
This article takes Huawei CE6810-24S2Q-LI and CE6860-48S8CQ-EI switches as examples, introducing the configuration methods for QSFP interface breakout and aggregation on Huawei CloudEngine 6800 series switches.
        1. By default, QSFP interfaces work in aggregation mode. Only one single 40G interface can be viewed on the device.
        2. Enter the system view, run the following command and save the configuration to break out a QSFP interface into four 10G interfaces:
            port split dimension interface <interface-type> <interface-id> split-type <split-type>
        3. After completing the breakout configuration, check the interface list. The original single 40G interface will be split into four independent 10G interfaces.
        4. Enter the system view, run the following command and save the configuration to cancel the breakout configuration:
            undo port split dimension interface <interface-type> <interface-id> split-type <split-type>
After canceling breakout, the interface restores to aggregation mode and returns to the factory default state.
