Moduletek Laboratory has previously introduced interface breakout and aggregation knowledge. Taking the N3K-C3164Q-40G switch as the actual test model, this article explains the configuration method for QSFP interface breakout and aggregation on Cisco Nexus 3164 Series switches.
1. By default, the QSFP interfaces work in aggregation mode. Only one standalone 40G interface can be displayed when checking interface information.
2. Enter global configuration mode and run the following command:
interface breakout module 1
Save the startup configuration and reboot the device to make the configuration take effect. This command enables breakout for all QSFP interfaces on the switch.
3. After enabling interface breakout, the original single 40G interface will be split into four independent 10G interfaces.
4. Enter global configuration mode and run the following command to disable interface breakout:
no interface breakout module 1
Save the startup configuration and reboot the device. The interfaces will exit breakout mode, revert to aggregation mode, and restore to the factory default state.
